How we did last year-
Well last year we were so so in political. The pope did not die as predicted. However, there were no terrorist attacts in the United States. There were overseas as predicted. India/Pakistan tensions pretty much stayed the same and did not intesnify as predicted. We were off that they would find out who was responsible for the anthrax virus. Close though. They had a suspect but later dropped the suspect from the list. On the economy we were pretty much on target with the exception of the Boeing who did not go on strike. In technology, isp's and dot coms did not fail as much as predicted. T1 did not become the broadband choice as predicted. I'm not even going to comment on the Mother Nature section for last year because it was way off. In Music, Napster didn't come back just like I said it wouldn't. Mp3's have hurt the music industry. And yes Ugghhh Pearl Jam did not break up like I have been predicting for the last three years, In entertainment. My Dvd prediction is coming true. More and more are renting dvd's over Vhs. Sally Jesse Raphael was cancelled but not Jenny Jones and Jerry Springer. In Seattle predictions Transportation was the big issue as predicted. I was wrong on Cellophane Square and Archie Mcphee's.
PREDICTIONS FOR 2003
Political
1. I hate to say this but unfortunately we will be going to war with Iraq BUT that is not all. North Korea will be the next to go to war with. I have a feeling they may catch us off guard again in the future however.
2. I hate to say this too but I see another terrorist attack in the United states. Not sure when or where it's just a feeling. Allthough I don't think we will ever see the kind of attack that happened on 9/11/01.
3. It won't be a great year for president Bush. His popularity will dwindle because citizens will not be happy with the economy and how he is not addressing it. Also the War with Iraq will damage his credibility. He will be going in without concrete evidence.
4. Towards the end of the year, there may be rumblings of World War 3. This is because the many conflicts that will be happening around the world.
5. Mother Teresa's 2nd Miracle will happen this year.
6. I meant the pope will pass away this year. However controversy in the Catholic church will prevent a new pope from being elected.
7. You will see pictures of the Coned baby soon. More cloned baby's will come too.
Economy-
1. The economy will continue to go bad. Possibly it will begin to recover towards the end of the year but it is doubtful.
2. More cuts in Government will be felt by all.
3. More businesses will be triming the fat. Sears and Jc Penney will close stores to make profits. Kmart will also close more stores toward the begining of the year and will end up abandoning whole markets toward the end of the year or throw in the towel all together.
4. Malls will pay the price but even though the economy is bad, they will use this time to remodel and upgrade. Old vacant stores may be filled with more family entertainment and amusement parks as malls try to grab everyone's money some how.
5. Macy's and May will merge and decide to become Macy's creating a new nationwide chain. Yes that means all of the stores under their umbrella will become Macy's as well!
6. FAO Schwartz will end up closing some stores due to filing bankruptcy.

Technology-
1. People, retailers and businesses are pretty much bored with computers. The manufaturers realize this and are working on a technology or device that will revolutionize the computer industry. This will be announced sometime this year.
2. Big issues this year will be Virus protection and security. A new virus or worm will be released that will catch all off guard.
3. CAble? DSL? T1? Nah.... WiFI is going to be the big internet decider this year. Look for more Wireless hook ups to become available and more isp's offering it.
4. Aol will have more trouble this year. They will start to loose subscribers due to lack of broadband offerings.
5. Cable or Sattelite? More people will switch to Sattelite tv this year.
6. Those IT powered scooters that everyone is talking about are pre selling like mad at AMAzon. I see this as a fad.
7. Cars will be smarter and more hybrid. Finally a car that uses a hydrogen cell will be produced that will be reasonably priced for consumers and also safe!
8. How about a new operating system that DOESN'T crash, is compatable with MAC, Windows, Lynux, Unix and others and blows the others out of the water speed wise. It will be announced toward the end of the year.

NEW-Health and Wellbeing...
1. The west Nile Virus will be a bigger concern this year.
2. The Small Pox Vaccine will be the big health watch this year. The question is should I vaccinate or not?
3. There will NOT be a cure for Aids, Cancer or Heart disease. But scientists will find out new information for these which will help in the cure in the future.
4. STem cells and Clones will be major issues in healthcare.
5. Doctors will realize that Botox treatments are worse than thought and the fda will propose to ban them.
6. The FDA will approve more drugs for over the counter. If you couldn't wait for Clairitan to be released, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Mother Nature-
1. Destructive weather in the United STates will cause damage and deaths. The Northwest will have a mild winter. The plains and east states will have a cold winter. Flooding from snow will cause damage.
2. Bad hurricanes will plague the east.
3. One west coast city will be hit with a Major Earthquake that could be damaging.
4. Scientists will recieve a signal from outerspace. This signal could be a sign of life on other planets.

Music-
1. The internet is killing the music industry. This year the focus will be on how to make money off the internet and stop piracy.
2. You will see more lawsuits from the RIAA over copyrights.
3. ITwill be a BIG year of comebacks and reunions. The groups and hit makers of the 80's will be trying to make it big again. Look for New records and or tours by:
Concrete Blonde(Note: They are touring and releasing a live album, but I think there will be a new Studio album in the works soon)
Fleetwood Mac, Madonna, Concrete Blonde, Prince, Eurythmics, and Culture Club.
Also Brittany Spears and Backstreet Boys will make a new album. Possibly there will be a song with both of them together.
4. The war on Iraq will bring the stars together for a benefit album similar to "farm aid" in the 80's.
5. Breaking up is hard to do. Ok this is it. I say this is the year that Pearl Jam will break up. If I'm wrong this year, I won't mention it again.
6. The theory that Courtney Love murdered Kurt Cobain will be opened again by investigators.
7. Cassettes? you won't find them in the stores anymore at the end of the year(If you can find them now)
8. Bad year for Tower Records. It will close stores and or be bought out by a competitor.
9. Michael Jackson dangleing his child out the window this year was nothing compared to what you will find out from him next year.
10. Madonna is going to release a new album. Look for controversy to start mid  year(Either she will have an affair on her husband or they will separate but not Divorce)Her new album should soon follow. Oh and one more thing, the new album will have a new sound and Madonna will have a new look.

Entertainment-
1. DVD's again. Look for DVD only rental stores to pop up in your neighborhood this year.
2. What the internet did to music, it will start doing to Movies this year. Look for a Napsterish type website to show up that trades DVD's online instead of Music. Oh yeah like Napster everyone will know about it.
3. Expect more reality shows on tv that are more daring then the ones we have now.
4. The television/cable industry will start working on a standard where swearing will and nudity will be permitted at certain times of the night. This will mean that they will no longer have to bleep out the swear words on the osbournes.
5. Will and Grace won't be the only show on TV with major Gay characters. Look for Soap opera's to have a gay character or two. Maybe even a major story line.
6. The soaps are taking a hit and some may be cancelled. I see the begining of the end for daytime Soap

Seattle-
1. Transportation, transportation, transportation. That will be the major issue this year. Nothing will be resolved. I see more transportation iniatives coming up but they will also fail.
2. More people and businessess will start to look to the AVE in the Udistrict to settle. This is because of the revitalizaiton that of the Ave that has been going on.
3. More and more the public will be disgusted with Sound Transit. There may be a cry to disband the agency.
4. There will be talks of merging at least three of the area's transit agencys. Look for Community Transit, Metro and Pierce to talk about merging.
5. Seattle will become a 1 newspaper town. Not sure if it's the Times or THe pi that will fail but the times is going to sever the JOA mid year. This will cause one of the dailies to fail.
6. The Seattle WEekly will fold.
7. Saks 5th Ave will finally announce a store for the SEattle area. Possibly at Bellevue Square.
8. Local Icon's Cellophane Square and Silver Platters will fold.
