BLIZZARD ISOLATES MIDWEST!!! |
| A winter storm dumped more than
a foot of snow across the midwest. In someplaces, snow drifts were over
eight feet. The snow stranded many in the midwest. But thousands were stranded
across the United states due to airlines cancelling flights to the midwest.
The storm is expected to move on to the east coast this week. |

NEWS |
FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE JOURNAL
Dear Journal,
What an awful week that I don't
want to re live again ever. First we rang in the new year here at home.
I still can't get used to the fact that it is 1999! Serena started back
to school Monday only to end up missing it for two weeks. You see after
I picked her up from school on Monday, she just wasn't herself. When I
got home, she had a high fever. So I called the doctor to make an appointment
for the next day. They asked if she had anymore symptoms, and i told them
that she was going to the bathroom alot the day before. The doctors told
me to bring her in right away. So I did. They had to take two urine tests.
One was really unpleasant for Serena. They gave her some medicine and we
went home, I thought that was the end of it. But it was only the beginning.
That night, serena continued to have a high fever. At one point in the
night, she was 104. I gave her a tepid bath to bring it down, but she was
very lethargic and she still had a high fever. The next morning the nurse
from the doctors office called and said to bring her in again. When we
got to the doctors office, they said that she would have to go to the hospital
overnight. I just lost it. I couldn't believe that my girl was going to
the hospital. She had a kidney, bladder and urinary tract infection.
We took her to the hospital and she was still pretty much out of it. When
she got their the doctor said that she would have to break her fever and
keep it down for 24 hours before she could go home. They hooked her up
to an IV. They had to do it four times. It was awful. We finally came home
Friday. However, it is not the end of this ordeal. Serena will have
to be on an antibiotic for two years. what happened is she has a valve
in the bladder that is not working right. It causes her urine to back up
into the kidney. Since Serena holds it a long time, her Urine got infected
and thus infected the Kidney. The doctors think that the valve will correct
itself. They said with kids her age it usually does. If not, it will mean
surgery. So in the meantime it's the antibiodics, for me I'll just be waiting
two years to exhale. . .

OF THE WEEK |
FORMERLY KNOWN AS
¡DavE!'s Opportunity to
chip his teeth!
Every parent's nightmare came true
for me this week. The dreaded trip to the hospital. Since my Health insurance
is Group Health, I had to go to Group Health's East Side Hospital. I felt
weary at first because It is an HMO and I fealt that they would be rude
and disrespectful and skimp to save money. Instead just the opposite happened.
The day nurse that took care of Serena, was absolutely wonderful and really
eased her fears. I was really impressed with the graveyard nurse. She was
supportive to us as parents and to Serena as a patient. The good thing
is she was with us all three days! On day two I was impressed again. That
wonderful day nurse from the day before was not working that day. However,
she came by to make sure all of her patients were doing ok. This very traumatic
experience, turned out to be just a little bit better by the staff at Group
Health, and I say thank you to them for being so kind and compassionate.
