Picture it... You are at home playing hookey, actually sick, ejoying
the day off or all of the above and because there is nothing else to do
you channel surf... And that one show catches your eye and sticks with
you. This happened to me with a show called Coronation street. It's a half
hour show on CBC which is a Canadian broadcasting station. And I love it.
It's actually an English Soap opera set in the Town of Weatherfield. Now
I don't typically like to pick up new shows. I already watch one American
soap opera, the Golden Girls and Judge Judy on a regular basis so picking
up a new show really sucks. But this show isn't like a typical soap opera.
First of all There is no glitzy fantasy let's make love and get divorces
kind of thing that is on American Soaps. It's pretty true to life. The
characters actually work for their money at job's like a Beauty Shop(not
a salon), A corner shop(like America's version of a convenience store or
tiny grocery) and oh of course the Rover's where all the character's hang
out.
This makes it even more fun. There are story lines that I have never
seen in the us like factory workers threatening to strike, At teen pregnancy
at 13, and the celebrations. The show has some humor. Ie-Blanche to Fred
"I almost thought I was going to die of thirst I've been wait for a drink
so long..." Fred to Blanche "Are you trying to cheer me up?" Character's
range from the young to very old and the cast members seem to have more
verterans then the Normal U.s. Soaps. So If you live in the U.s. And get
CBC, check out Coronation STreet. It's a cool kick but soap. The only bad
thing is it's only on 4 days a week for a half hour? What's up with that?
