THE DISCO YEARS
1977 started off great for ABBA. The group had just released the album "Arrival" and earned their first number on hit from it. "Dancing Queen" hit number one on the U.S. Album charts. The group launched a tour that included T.V. Specials, tours and appearances. Arrival also yielded the hits "Knowing Me, Knowing you" and "The name of the Game". During their tour the group recorder some songs that they performed on stage as a mini musical. They filmed them and later released a hit movie called "ABBA-The Movie". This was a predecessor to today's Music Video. In 1978, the group released "ABBA-The Album", which was the soundtrack to "The Movie". "The Album" Yielded the hit "Take a chance on me". 1979 was a big year for ABBA. The group released two albums that year. The disco-ish "Voulez Vous" album yielded five hits including "Does your mother know"-with Bjorn on lead vocals, "Chiquitita"-Which was donated to UNICEF, "Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie", "Summer Night City", and "I have a dream" All of which did well on the U.S. charts. The group also ended up releasing a second greatest hits album called "Greatest Hits volume 2" This album included the new song "Summer Night City". The group Started the 80's by having their last tour ever. The late 70's proved to be the groups most lucrative dollar wise for them. And it was during that time that they acquired their fans. |
